ABOUT
About John Exley / John Exley Ltd.

I left school in 1982 with “O” level passes in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Control Technology (a fairly new subject at the time!).
I passed my motorbike and then car driving tests shortly after leaving school. I also retook and passed "O"level English.

I decided to go into agriculture because of the time I had spent on my deceased maternal grandfather’s farm.

I worked on several farms in the Nottinghamshire area for a few years before starting to work for an Agricultural & Fencing Contractor, where I worked for 10 years, mainly covering the South Notts area. During this time I went to Brackenhurst, Notts Agricultural College on Block and Day Release gaining City & Guilds qualifications. During this time I passed my HGV Class 1 driving test and also my PA1 & 2.

I was doing a lot of tractor work at this time ranging from ploughing with a MF1200 to combining with a New Holland Clayson 1550S, along with working down, drilling with a MF30 drill, spraying, fertilizer spreading, mowing grass and round baling. At the time baled silage was still going in Bags!
In 1995 the contracting business I was working for started moving more towards fencing than tractor work so I put an ad in the Farmers Weekly under Situations Wanted. Of the several job offers I had I decided to go to Roxholme Estates at Roxholm just outside Sleaford in Lincolnshire (now part of Dyson Farming). My main task was ploughing (up to 2,000 acres per year), primary cultivations, muck spreading (from the 3 dairy units milking 600 cows), buck raking silage, a bit of lorry driving and general farm duties. I was driving a Fendt 615 at the beginning, which was replaced with an 822 that managed almost 9,000 hours in 4½ years. The Gen.1 Fendt 926 Vario replaced this, at the time it was the biggest tractor Fendt manufactured. During this time I passed my crawler driving test as the farm also had a Claas Challenger.

In 2003 I was made redundant and set up as a driving instructor doing car and car plus trailer training. Since giving that up I have had several jobs including working at Nottingham Express Transit as a Tram Driver and at an Agco dealer as a PDI technician. During this time I passed my Bus driving test.

Now I am now drawing my SIPP but also occasionally working as John Exley Ltd. Relief Driver, Agricultural Tractor & HGV driving.
